Sony Mobile head says the mobile division is not being sold –Le Figaro
Trusted sources had once indicated that Sony had plans of selling its phone unit due to the poor performance. However, on an interview with Le Figaro, a French newspaper, the head of the mobile phone department in Sony made it clear that there are no such plans of selling this unit. This comes in only two weeks after the Sony Chief executive Hirai Kazuo said that he would not rule out when an exiting strategy is considered.
“At the beginning of February there was speculation about a sale of Sony Mobile,” Hiroki Totoki who is the head of this division was quoted by the newspaper on the interview that was made public on their website on Monday evening. He also said that the main reason why the Corp CEO Hirai had gone to Barcelona was because he wanted to explain to the Mobile World Congress how important this business is to Sony.
He also told the magazine that Sony has a diverse Mobile Portfolio of products hence it needs to be refocused. This will be made possible by slowing down the rate at which it launches its new products. This is a strategy meant to adapt to consumers who are used to keeping their phones for a longer time than it was the case in the past.
